How to Remove E-Bike Battery Without Key: The Sneaky Method!

Suppose you got up one day, went for a joy ride, and lost your battery keys on the way. Terrifying, right? How on earth can you remove an e-bike battery without a key? A replacement key isn’t around as well.

Well, don’t worry. A simple lock picking is a silver bullet to all your problems.

Most electric bike battery locks come with a pin-tumbler lock, which has varying length pins for preventing the battery lock from opening. Rule of the thumb, find a way to set the pins in line, rotate the lever, and wallah.

Some electric bike batteries don’t need lock picking, and you just have to push down on the lock mechanism to unlock the battery.

However, force it too much and you will end up ruining the battery life or destroying it completely.

Necessary tools:

How Do You Pick a Lock on An E-Bike Battery:

  • First, take a screwdriver and shove it in the keyhole.
  • Now, rotate it slightly until you feel a slight tension.
  • Don’t rotate the screwdriver too much, or else the lock mechanism may get damaged.
  • Using the bent lock picker, slowly go through the pins one by one.
  • Just push the pins up, and you will hear a clicking sound for each pin.
  • It will take a few minutes, so don’t rush.
  • After setting all the pins right, rotate the screwdriver completely, and wallah.

How to Remove Lock Screws from e-Bike:

Some e-bike batteries will come right off if you remove the screws properly. However, there is a risk to that. You may end up damaging the charging stations if the screw removal process isn’t proper.

The steps are easy:

  • Find all the screws that attach the battery to the charging port.
  • Use a screwdriver that fits the screw heads properly.
  • After fixing the screwdriver in place, rotate it
  • Remove all of them and apply a bit of force to remove the battery.

Then again, there is a 50% chance of success. So, you are on your own on this one.

How to Apply the Pulling Down on The Lock Mechanism:

E-bikes having a battery underneath the step-up rod are more likely to come off with this method. This is, however, highly risky and trolls a huge pressure on the connecting battery pins. Chances are, you will end up loosening the pins.

The steps are:

  • Locate the battery lock where you generally insert the key.
  • Now, use a screwdriver to separate the locked port from the battery.
  • You may also need two or three screwdrivers to remove the battery completely.
  • Don’t push too hard. After all, this process may damage the charging dock.

Note: Some e-bikes may have battery connection wires underneath the charging dock attachment. Connections may be loose or get damaged due to over-pressuring.

If your e-bike has a 3-in-1 mode available, then you can start the bike without a battery. All you need is to set the battery mode to a regular bike, and Bob’s your uncle. However, you won’t be able to use the PAS mode without a battery.

If your e-bike is below the 300$ range, chances are you may be able to turn on the e-bike or open the e-bike battery with rad keys. However, for modern pin-tumbler locks of e-bikes, a rad bike key will hardly be of use.

Are e-bike Batteries Removable?

E-bike batteries can either be removable or non-removable. Both of them have their advantages. Non-removable batteries are more secure and will hardly get stolen. On the other hand, removable batteries are easier to replace or swipe when needed.

End Note
